Our Soft Plastics Recycling Process
We bring soft plastics recycling to your doorstep or business.
How it works
Book a pickup or join a regular plan on our website or the RecycleSmart app.
Pack your soft plastics (and other hard-to-recycle things) in any regular shopping bag roughly the size of 40x40x20cm.
A friendly local driver will collect your recyclables and drop them off at our consolidation point.
What happens to the soft plastics?
We are partnered with multiple soft plastics recyclers to offer the best solution currently available in your area.
One of the processes used includes:
The soft plastics are baled and transported to Victoria where it will be processed.
At the facility, the soft plastics are shredded so it can be consistently fed into the process.
Shredded plastics are then fed into a pyrolysis machine.
The uniquely designed corkscrew conveyor transports the plastic material into the reactor and breaks it down at high temperatures. The plastic is then converted into feedstock oil.
The feedstock oil will be sent to a refinery for further processing. It will be turned into resin, which enables it to be turned back into food grade plastic packaging again.
