What happens to the items we collect?

We send them on the journey of their (second) life.

No magic wand, just a rock-solid process and a trusted network of partners ready to reuse or recycle what we carefully sort. Our sorting guarantees clean, valuable recyclables or items ready for immediate reuse.

How it works

STEP 1
Sorting

STEP 2
Consolidating

STEP 3
Sending off for reuse or recycling

STEP 4
Tracking & reporting

Traceability

At RecycleSmart, we meticulously gather data on the resources we retrieve.

The items we collect are taken to our consolidation points where the items are organised to be connected with our recycling & reuse partners.

We collect over 100 different items that are recycled, reused, repaired, repurposed or returned.

We try to show you behind the scenes as much as possible over on social media. Follow us to keep updated with our consolidation points, collection process and see what happens to the items we collect.

A second life to almost everything

 FAQs

    • Soft plastics: are connected with our recycling partners. One of our solutions is delivering pallets of soft plastics to APR Plastics in Victoria where they will be transformed into feedstock oil which enables it to become flexible plastic again. Find out more about our partnership here.

    • We work with certified recycling partners who follow strict environmental guidelines to ensure that collected materials are recycled responsibly and ethically.

  • Yes:

    • Wet, dirty or moldy items, organics

    • Biodegradable plastics

    • Heavily contaminated materials (e.g. polystyrene with cement)

  • Bags: Yes you can! Here's some tips to help your driver:

    • Keep your soft plastics separate from items like clothes because they can get some sneaky food on your nice, clean t-shirt.

    • Leave small items on top. They looove to play hide and seek with our drivers. At first it’s cute, but after about five minutes of seeking, it stops being fun.

Are you a business? You can mix items in bins as long as they are strictly smaller than 240L bins.
