Plastic-Free Quarantine Activities

Not sure what to do during the extended lockdown? Join the club.  We asked our audience what their favourite sustainable quarantine activity was and responses such as “staring at the wall” and “sleeping” gave us an indication that people are in dire need of some inspiration.

So, here it is! Four activities that you can do that are safe, sustainable and more exciting than staring out the window!

Plogging:

The first activity that you, and one other person, can do together is to master the art of jogging and picking up rubbish, also known as, plogging. Grab your masks, gloves and some reusable bags and go for a walk around your neighbourhood to collect some litter. You’ll get some exercise in, soak in some sun and help clean up the environment! For more information on plogging click here and don’t forget to use the hashtag #recyclesmartplog if you post it on social media.

Composting:

Composting may seem a little complicated, but what better time to learn about it then during a lockdown? If you want to start your composting journey but don’t know where to begin, Compost Revolution makes it super easy to find a solution that works for you and even offers discounts based on their partnership with councils!

Bake to Basics

There is no doubt that we’ve all gained an interest in the culinary arts during lockdowns. To stand out against the crowd however, use this lockdown to find plastic-free options for all your baking ingredients! Start with buying your fruits and veggies naked (the produce… not you, that would be illegal), buy things in bulk rather than small little packages and finally, follow accounts such as @sustainablygia for some sustainable cooking inspo!

Sort it out:

If you haven’t already completed our Lock Down Clean Up Challenge use this time to sort out your soft plastics, wearable clothes, e-waste and misfit waste items, schedule a Power Pickup and we’ll collect it from your doorstep and recycle it for you. Click here to see the challenge and click here to see the full list of what we can and cannot collect!

Make sure to share these ideas with your other planet-conscious friends and to tag #recyclesmart if you post it on social media!
