The Lock DOWN Clean UP Challenge!

Sydney’s lockdown has cancelled all of our holiday plans and we are (once again) thinking about random hobbies we can pick up to keep ourselves occupied for the next two weeks.

Before you pull out your baking ingredients, take on our Lock Down Clean Up challenge to declutter your space and get rid of all those tricky waste items you’ve been hiding in your drawers!

Challenge #1 Soft Plastics

No matter how hard we try, soft plastics have a sneaky way of making their way into our homes. Your first lockdown challenge is to raid your pantry, your fridge and your bathroom to find as many clean soft plastics as you can and to pop them into a shopping bag.

Once you’re done packing them all in your bag, make sure you have a Power Pickup scheduled so that we can collect them from your doorstep and recycle them correctly for you!

Tip: After this clean up, try to reduce the number of items you purchase with soft plastics and purchase items with reusable packaging!

Challenge #2 Clothes, Clothes, Clothes!

If you’re still holding on to a jacket that your highschool sweetheart gave you, we’re here to tell you that it’s time to let it go… so, your second lockdown challenge is:

  1. Go through and re-organise your closet.

  2. Try on all your clothes and have a mini fashion show in your room.

  3. Place all your pre-loved items into two separate bags. Wearable and non-wearable.

  4. Make sure your Power Pickup is scheduled so that we can donate your wearable items and recycle your non-wearables!

Tip: Next time, ditch fast fashion trends! Buy less, buy second hand and only buy what you need!

Challenge #3 E-Waste

We all have that one drawer with a bunch of old batteries, old phones that no one knows how to operate and a bunch of cables that you no longer use.

So, your third challenge is to clear out those chaotic drawers WITHOUT getting distracted (we know it won’t be easy).

And finally, make sure they’re placed in a shopping bag and on your doorstep on the day of your scheduled Power Pickup!

Tip: Consider selling your items so that they can be re-used and don’t buy new devices if your existing ones work well!

Challenge #4 Misfits

This is the most exciting challenge of all! Not long ago, we introduced you guys to some of the misfit waste items that RecycleSmart will take off your hands. These items included Polystyrene, Expired Medicines, Batteries and many more!

The full list of Misfit waste items that we collect are HERE!

We hope these challenges help lockdown feel a little more like you CHOSE to stay at home to smash your recycling goals!

We’d love to hear how you go with our challenges! Which one was the hardest? Which one felt the best once completed? Let us know through our social media platforms!
