Where did Earth Day come from? Where is it now? What do we do to celebrate?

We’ve got all the answers you need. Let’s get into it!

Where did Earth Day come from?

Unless we’re all planning to hop on Elon Musk’s rocket to Mars sometime soon, Earth is the only planet that we have, and it is in need of urgent care.

This is the realisation that US Senator Gaylord Nelson came to in 1970 when he decided that it was time for a large scale commitment towards climate action. During this time of major political instability and disillusionment with the status quo, people were ready to fight for what they believed in. And what they believed in, was creating a global network of eco-conscious consumers that would unite every year to remember their responsibility towards the planet.

That day was April 22.

The first Earth Day in 1970 saw 20 million Americans pour onto the streets demanding climate justice!

Earth Day planned itself.
— Gaylord Nelson
