Battle with Batteries
Let’s talk numbers!
Recycling saves over 700 million tonnes of CO2 each year and is thus a major contributor towards the creation of a circular economy.
Despite the growing innovations centred around recycling, there remains confusion on what, where and how to recycle certain items. Enter RecycleSmart...We were made to help with just that!
Our Recyclopedia (now available on our RecycleSmart App) has become Australia’s most comprehensive recycling encyclopedia. And now with our Power Pickup service, it’s easier than ever to have your tricky items collected, sorted and recycled correctly for you.
One of the trickiest waste items that still fails to be recycled correctly is batteries.
Did you know that batteries can be incredibly dangerous? They contain hazardous chemicals that can produce sparks, cause internal combustion and create fires in trucks, recycling facilities and in landfills. Yes, so small and yet so powerful!
So what can we do?
First things first, you can invest in rechargeable batteries! Why?
You can re-use them hundreds of times (no need to go out and buy more).
You reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
They end up being more affordable in the long term.
Now… onto recycling them!
Both rechargeable batteries AND single-use batteries do NOT belong in your yellow recycling bin.
The easiest way to get rid of your batteries is by booking a Power Pickup with RecycleSmart. We’ll collect them from your house and take them to the nearest battery collection point.
ALSO - Don’t forget to remove your batteries from toys, remote controls, digital cameras etc. before disposing of them. These sneaky batteries are easy to forget about, and may end up in landfill.
